Why is this important?

According to research by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, adolescents who begin drinking at a young age are more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 21. Patterns formed during adolescence play a critical role in health throughout adulthood. Alcohol use also impairs judgment and can lead to other high-risk behaviors such as drunk driving and sexual activity.
